Below is a copy of a letter by Steve Yorke which has appeared in the March issue of Sporting Gun.

I am presently sponsoring Chris Pratt in Olympic Skeet who is relatively new to this event. He obviously has talent, (not my words but David Dale’s, his coach).

"My question is this: I am surprised that the only shooters who appear to have sponsorship are the GB team and other people at the top of their game.

I feel that unless new talented people can receive sponsorship, the sport will not develop. I would like to hear from other companies like mine that would be interested in sponsoring young shooters.

Perhaps you would like to comment on the points raised."

New British Double Trap Record

At the recent BICTSF GB Double Trap Selection shoot held at Southern Counties on 24/09/2011 Peter Wilson set a new British record of 149 ex 150 (50,49,50) which if ratified would also be a new World record (previously 148) and then shot a 48 in the final to equal the existing 197 World Record.

Well done Pete!!

The 24 year old Double Trap Shooter from Dorset has risen to the top of the World and European Rankings after a amazing record breaking season so far Peter has Won the Silver Medal in Concepcion, Chile shooting a 142 to go into the final 6th then shooting a 48 to cilmb the table to 2nd gaining his Olympic Quota Place. Peter also went on to shoot at Maribor where in 2006 he went on to win the gold medal as a Junior, 5 years later he returned with great form and went into the final this time leading it with a massive score of 146 then held his nerve to shoot a impressive 49 to win the Gold medal and set a New European Final Record.

"Winning Silver in Concepcion led me to believe that just about anything’s possible in sport. I came from the back of an incredibly talented field to win Silver and an Olympic Quota place. This I would have to say was a huge turning point. Obviously the win in Maribor was exceptional but not as unexpected."

Peter went to the European Championships in Belgrade however after shooting a 144 + 47 this was not enough for a medal but it was good enough for fourth meaning he elevated to World Number 1

Peter said about the year so far "It’s been an incredible year. Firstly I can’t thank everyone around me enough for all their help, hard work and dedication. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today!"

Peter and his Coach Ahmed Al Maktoum are now developing a shotgun cartridge for 2012 when questioned Peter said about it "I am indeed in the process of developing a shotgun cartridge. 12 months ago I set my sights on obtaining a cartridge that could significantly aid performance. We’re now currently 4 months into the final phase of testing and I am extremely excited by our progress! In combination with Ahmed Al Maktoum and George Young from Proper Cartridges we look well placed to produce a radical new product. British Shooting has just recently backed the project with 2012 in mind." however he also noted that this particular cartridge will not be available on the open market.
